Thankful Attitude

It’s just a few days past Thanksgiving, and I’m still reflecting on all I have to be thankful for–family, friends, and especially God’s love for me. Sometimes, when things aren’t going as well as I might like, I remind myself to be thankful for all the things God has done for me.

It’s important for every believer to not only feel thankful, but to take the time to tell God how much we appreciate Him and all the blessings He’s bestowed on us, as well as our families. Knowing that God can use all things for His good is more than enough reason for me to give thanks in everything.

I wrote a poem sometime ago entitled, “Thankful Attitude,” and it goes like this: We should be thankful for the abundance that is ours, for the beauty of this world, the sun, moon, and stars. For our family, friends, and God’s everlasting love, we should give thanks to the Father above. We should be thankful for the clothes we wear, and for the opportunities we have to share. For the Son whom God sent because of His love, we should offer our thanks to the Father above.

“Oh, give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 136:1.

What are you thankful for today?

  1. Thank you for sharing. I am thankful for my family. We may not be abundant in
rich’s, we have plenty of love and caring to give to each other thou.

  2. I’m thankful for a mind that is fairly sharp and for books to read that are both interesting and fun and yet spiritual as well. I really enjoy the books by all authors on the Amish!

  3. I am thankful for our church family. They are warm, loving, and giving. I have been the administrative assistant at our church since June of 2001 and am feeling their arms wrapped around my family right now. My husband, through not fault of his own, lost his job two weeks ago. The company has been having cash problems and are now considering the employees as part-time and we get to keep our health benefits. There have been envelopes arriving with cash in them, simply marked “from a friend” and I know it’s from church because only our directory includes the +4 zip code and it was on the envelope. I thank God every day for these wonderful people — we’re not Amish, but as members of the Church of the Brethren, we’re cousins!

  4. i READ MY FIRST BOOK ON aMISH AND THOGHT OMY THIS IS SO LIKE OUR FAMILY IN SOME MANY WAYS/ mY MOTHER DIED IN 1974, i WAS A LATE IN LIFE BABY. i FINALLY ASK MY OLDEST AND ONLY SISTER LEFT, wHY DOES THIS SOUND LIKE US. (
(SHE IS 26 YEARS OLDER THAN ME) sHE SAID THIS WAS YOUR MOTHER’S MOTHER’S BACK GROUND. fINALLY AN ANSWER TO LOTS OF QUESTIONS. tHOUGH NOT aMISH, BUT eNGLISH WE WERE BROUGHT UP WITH ALOT OF aMISH CULTURAL INFLUEANCES. i AM A cHRISTIAN AN LOVE READING ABOUT THE aMISH. pLEASE wANDA DON’T LEAVE ME HANGING. i’VE READ EVERY BOOK. nOW, i PATIENTLY WAIT FOR THE NEXT IN THE SERIES WITH tITUS, tIMOTHY, AND SAMUEL. pLEASE CONTINUE TO WRITE, i WRITE ON MY CALENDER WHEN THE NEXT BOOK COMES OUT BUT DID NOT SEE THE NEXT ONE.

  5. I jusdt read your book “The Neighborly Thing” and enjoyed it very much, but do not find any more in that Washington series. Are there any more in that series? I am very thankful for my husband of 59 years. He came very near to death at this time laqst year, and but for the grace of God, and much prayer, he would not be here.

  6. I just finished hemming my husband’s pants, and putting new elastic in my pj’s waistband; therefore, I am especially thankful to my Mom & Grandmom, who taught me to sew. They saved me thousands of dollars (clothes, prom, wedding, baby, children, curtains, etc) and I earned hundreds of dollars sewing for others while I was home raising my kids. I am also thankful for my family (Bill, George, Jennifer, Rob, Ashley & granddaughter Evelyn!) and friends (Lerlene, Cindy, Margie, and others). I am also thankful for wonderful authors like Wanda who give me many pleasurable hours of reading!

  7. Looking forward to sharing and celebrating the birth of our Savior with my family.. we lost my daddy 2 years ago so we are all finding a new normal but God is getting us all through this storm in our lives..

  8. If only our whole world could have a “thankful attitude” it would be an answer to peace for all.

At this holiday time, it would be wise for many of us to embrace all that you spoke of throughout this website. Simplicity as the Amish live daily sounds like an answer to many ails of our society.
