Wanda’s Journal

True Friendship

My heart is breaking right now, for I just learned that one of my special “English” friends has an incurable cancer. I would ask that you join me with prayers on her behalf, as well as for her dear husband. I found it especially touching to learn that a group of their Amish friends recently came to pay a call on them, even bringing a meal along. Before the Amish women left my friends’ home, they gathered around the wife who is ill, to give her a hug and a kiss, which let her know just how much they cared.

As I reflected on this, and said a prayer for them myself, I was reminded of how important it is for each of us to be sensitive to other’s needs — to pray for them and let them know how much we love them through our words and deeds. It seems that we often get too busy doing so many “things” that we sometimes forget to spend time with our friends or let them know how much we care.

None of us knows how long we have to live on this earth, which is why we need to live each day as if it’s our last.
Is there someone you know who needs a touch from God today? They can receive that touch by your act of love and kindness.

“Heavenly Father, may my heart always be sensitive to others in need, and may they see the love of Christ living in me. Amen.”

  1. Yes Wanda I will join you in prayer for your very special friend and her husband. I just wanted you to know that I can see the love of Jesus in you. You are a wonderful witness both in the things you say and in the stories you write.
    Blessings

  2. Wanda,

I will certainly join you in prayer for your friend and her husband. That is so hard to go through , I can only imagine how they must be feeling. God is the great physician and He is capable of healing her if it’s His will.

This post reminded me of the sermon our Pastor preached yesterday. It was in John 11, when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Verse 11 says, When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.” (‭John‬ ‭11‬:‭4‬ KJV)
My prayer is that others will see Jesus in and through this woman and how she battles this incurable cancer. May He get all the honor and praise!

Life is too short so we need to live life to the fullest like you said, love one another, and forgive one another.

Please keep us updated on how your sweet friend is doing.

    Love and prayers,
    Brittany

  3. Wanda,

My thoughts and prayers swing sent to your friend and family. What a wonderful friend you are to include your readers, as we know prayers are strength.

Thank you for writing such wonderful books. I believe you have 2 children, 6 grand children and a little great grandson.

    Feel blessed.

  4. Sending prayers to you and your friend! Life is very short, everyday I tell the people I love the most, “I love you”!

  5. I find your words to be so true. Sometimes we become so busy with ourselves that we forget about the needs of others. Just taking a minute to stop, think and pray for others. Thank you for the reminder.

  6. God is the great physician. He made us as you know and can bring healing for your friend. That is my prayer.

  7. I am so sorry and they will be in my prayers also. Have a nephew, just 38, that due to a blood disease has cirrhosis of the liver. He is being on the transplant list but he is just too young to deal with this with two young daughters. You are right. We never know God’s plan but it still is a very hard thing. God Bless you and yours.

  8. Wanda,
I too just found out that a dear friend’s sister has cancer and will undergo surgery on September 11.
I truly believe that when we can’t “fix-it”, God can. Life is an ever changing pattern planned by God. He is real in our lives and we keep him close by the power of prayer. Praying for strength to accept God’s will in all things for all folks helps me through the “why times”. I will add your prayer request to my list. God Bless you and yours

    Dottie

  9. First of all, Dear Father, pleae put your healing hands on Wanda’s freind. Please comfort the family and give them your mighty strength to go through this trial, then give Wanda the same strength and faith to face the trial you have placed before her! You will give her strength if shejust holds tight to the Great Physician! You never know God’s plan you just have to be ready for all trials he will be there to hold your hand! In Christ!

  10. Hi Wanda, I really love your books. I think your writings are very sensitive and full of much value to the reader. I hate to see people suffer and hope that your friend will be touched by your sweet spirit. We all know how trying these things can be.
    Blessings, my friend!
    Sonja

  11. I think every person needs a special touch everyday. At my job, I try to make sure that I am a true light to everyone that I encounter. Everyone is going through something and you have no idea what you single act of kindness can mean to someone.

  12. I enjoy your books & look forward to each new book that comes out. So sorry to hear about your friend. Will include her in my prayers. Mary

  13. I pray that God miraculously heals your friend. May all involved be at peace. (you and your husband have two grown children, a son and a daughter.)

  14. After reading your journal entry, I couldn’t help but feel lost myself.. I lost three friends in three and a half months this year.. Two from cancer and one from emphysema.. My heart cried out with this loss.. I asked God to help me get through and he did.. But friendship is something we must learn to cherish and hold dear.. We are all together laughing and having a good time, and in a second they are gone.. Take time to spend with your friends, giving help, love a kind ear, or whatever we can.. You have two beautiful children Richard Jr.. and Lorine.. God Bless you all.

  15. Dear Wanda,
We will be praying for your dear friend with cancer.
It’s such a difficult diagnosis, and has touched our family many times.

You have two grown children, six amazing grandchildren, and one great-grandson!

My question: may I order the 3 quilt books from you?
That is the only series I haven’t read yet!

    Many hugs,

    Jeanie M

  16. Lifting you and your husband up in prayer. Special prayer for your friend for a miracle healing. We serve a miracle healing God. God bless you and your family on your up coming events. Just want to thank you for being such a witness for our ever loving Father.

  17. “May the Good Lord be with those who are suffering with terminal illness, and also be with their families, as they suffer, support and guide their love ones at this time. Amen”.

Wanda, I believe you have two children. I love your books and am anxious too read your latest, “The Healing Quilt.”

  18. I know how important friends and prayers are for those who are hurting. I lost my precious husband and friend from cancer eight months ago. These have been the hardest months of my life, but I know that the friends who surround me with their interest and love, and the prayers that have sustained me during this time.=, is what has kept me going. May God bless you and the wonderful books you write for our encouragement, enlightenment, and enjoyment. And God bless Richard, your two children, and your many grandchildren.

  19. So often we live life as if we will be here forever; but when I hear of someone that is terminally ill I pray for that person and their family but also I pray that I remember to live today as if it is my last for we never know when our hour will come to join Jesus.

Wanda and Richard have two adult children.

  20. Thanks so much for the reminder that we need to show our friends and loved ones how much we love them every day. “No man knows the hour”. Let’s not waste another moment. You are blessed to have 2 precious children.

  21. Hi, I would love a prayer for our 22 year old son. He has just
found out that he is diabetic and we are headed to the nutritionist
and doctor, tomorrow to get him medicated and eating the correct
    way…
    Thanks, Cindi

  22. Thank you for the opportunity to share in praying for your friend and her husband! It is certainly always a privilege to join together with others in prayer for a specific request.

You and Richard have 2 children.

  23. Cancer is such a horrible word for anyone to hear.Having just lost a brother in law because of this ,this really hits close to home.

  24. That dreaded word cancer enters so many lives. My brother-in-law who always was so full of life found out he had cancer and in 3 weeks he was gone. We never know what is in store for us and your friend is so lucky to have so many that are going thru this with her. Praying for her.

  25. I HATE cancer!!!
We do not know what the future holds, but we can/do know WHO holds our future…
Life was going along grand for me–had a busy day sewing on Sat, Aug 23; woke up in the wee hours of Aug 24, very ill (thought it was a flu bug) and had to be taken to ER on Aug 26, where I was admitted to the hospital & stayed 4.5 days– (1st time: cellulitis) My L leg is 2X it’s normal size &I’ve not been released to work, yet…
The LORD is good & my heart can safely trust HIM!

  26. I will pray for your friend and her husband. My husband had bladder cancer. They removed it and gave him a neo pouch as well as chemo treatments. That was 5 years ago and he just had
another pet scan and is cancer free. Many prayers ascended to God in his behalf by many of our friends and relatives. God is so good! May God continue to bless you, Richard, and your two children and their families.

  27. My sincere sympathy to you and your family. I lost a dear friend to cancer and miss her terribly. Because she was one in God I find peace in thinking she is with Him and no longer suffering.
My prayers are with you and your friends family during this difficult time God be with you.

  28. Hi Wanda,

Yes, I will pray for your friend and her family. My sweet mother in law battled breast cancer a few years ago and is healthy now. But there is not a day that goes by that I don’t thank God for healing her and to continue to keep her healthy. Thank You for your wonderful books. Your words are such a comfort to me in this crazy world.

  29. Hi Wanda
I will say a prayer for your friend and her husband and also for you.
I too know several people who are close to my husband and myself with cancer and a couple do not have long to live. It is so hard to understand how God can take one of his beautiful creations and let them suffer like they are. One I know is a Christian the other two hoping thru words of love by family they will find their way and will be one in God and have peace.

Answer to your contest – you have two grown children. A son, Richard Jr married to Jean and a daughter, Lorine married to William.

Prayers going up to you and your family and your friend and her family.

  30. I on many occasions have garnered strength and a sense of peace through reading your books. I an honored to add my prayers to yours for your dear friend and all those in need of a prayer. I have lost many family members and friends to cancer and watched the fight to survive or in some cases to enjoy the love of family and the blessig of each day to its fullest during the time they have left.
Thank you Mrs. Brunstetter for your writing of books that speak to the heart and soul, for books that are enjoyable to read while not crossing into the realm of content that may make you blush to put it nicely.

  31. I am sorry to hear of your friend’s illness. I will keep your friend and her family in my thought and prayers.

Every day I am thankful that my sister has been cancer free for one year, after having a double mastectomy last year. I know how I important it is to have the love, support and kindness of family, friends and even strangers, when someone is battling a disease.

Wanda, please keep us up to date on your friend’s health.

  32. Thoughts and Prayers are with all of those that are in need. And remember everyday – tell those that you love – I love you!

  33. My prayers are with your friend and her husband. I have a cousin who needs your prayers for strength. He has medical problems that is taking his strength away and his hands are cripple due to arthritis. All his doctors say there is nothing more that can be done. He is 68 years old, doesn’t want to give up but I am afraid that he is. I pray everyday for God to give him strength just to be able to do daily things for himself. Without the help of his sister her wouldn’t be able to stay in his home so I pray for her too, for God to give her strength to take care of her brother.

  34. What a blessing your friend has in you and the Amish community, to be able feel the love our Lord is showing her. May the peace that passes all understanding cover her and her family during this time of sorrow.

  35. I know what it’s like to lose a dear friend, I will be praying for your friend, God can restore her! I got to meet your son Richard in Shipshewana when my sister lindabelle and I went to your book signing! You also have a daughter, whom we haven’t met yet. My special friend was my prayer partner and a sister to me, but Jesus took her home last March just 2 days before my own birthday! I really miss her, but she is healthy and happy and totally healed! Love you Wanda,

  36. What you said is so true Wanda , about living each day as tho it was your last. What a much better world it would be. And, the older we get it is closer.I do wish I could talk to my neighbors more, but most are Mexicans who don’t speak English. As to my gift, I have never seemed to know what special gift GOD gave me. I have always tried to be a good daughter, Mother, grandmother, and friend. I’ve tried to listen and encourage when I can. I ask GOD into my heart when I was age 10. I would love see you somewhere with Randy. I don’t understand how people do that but wish I could. I’ve always thought it was neat. I love seeing Randy on Facebook. He is so cute. I have not been able to get your last two books but someday I will. It was so neat to get to meet you in person. A very special birthday for me. My 79th. GOD bless you in your work. Maxie

  37. I will add your friend to my prayer list and to our parish book of prayers.
Our entire parish will then be lifting your friend up in prayer. God bless
her and you, and your son and daughter.

    Patricia Cochran

  38. So sorry for the family, I think cancer has touched just about everybody. Wanda you have two grown children.

  39. Question: 2 grown children, Richard Jr. and Lorine and your husband, Richard. You now have 6 grandchildren.
Would love to win and read the Healing Quilt . Books 1 & 2 were so good. Nice to read how an Amish lady can influence Englishers. Great books.
    sm

  40. I needed your message today. Thank you for your ministry through your writing. I am enjoying reading the new as well as the earlier series. (I, too, would like to win a copy of the Healing Quilt.)

  41. Sorry to hear about your friend, but at least with God we know the end of the story!

In answer to your contest, you have 2 children.

  42. Will say a prayer for your friend who has been diagnosed with cancer, such a horrible disease. Also please remember my James who is also battling colon cancer.

I love reading your books and look forward to reading The Healing Quilt.

You and your husband have two children.

  43. Praying for you….Thank you for responding to my e-mail a couple months ago with your prayers for my husband Brad who has Leukemia…we continue in partial remission…I say we because we are going through this together with God’s help…We were honored to meet you and your husband in Shipshewanna last year….Your books are such an inspiration to me…My husband comments how I get so devoured in them! You indeed have two children and I’d love a copy of your new book! Again love & prayers until we meet again!

  44. My prayers are with you and your speacial friend! Cancer has taken an uncle from me. He was a christian when he pasted. Praise the Lord! Because a few months before, he wasn’t. You are an inspiration to anyone who meets you or reads one of your books. I always get taken away when reading one. I know your 2 children-Richard,jr. and wife Jean and daughter Lorine and husband William, are all very pleased to have you as a mother. Thank you for all your books. I have enjoyed many hours of reading them. Thank you!!!!

  45. My prayers go out for your friend and her husband and for all who will care for them. Friendship is such a blessing and as you point out something we can easily overlook in our “busy” lives. Thank you for reminding us of what is truly important.
You and Richard have 2 adult children, Richard Jr., married to Jean, and Lorine, married to William and 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
    Blessings and Peace,
    Jean

  46. My heart goes out to your Amish friend with cancer and I will be praying for her recovery and return to good health.

  47. Prayers for your Amish friend with cancer. I’ve seen God’s miracle of healing in lives of individuals with cancer. I’m a Hospice volunteer and know from personal experience with my dear Dad passing away with cancer. But I also know God is the Healer if that is His will for a particular individual. Prayers are powerful and doing tasks (like providing meals, yard work, running errands, etc) for the family shows the kindness, love and compassion you have for them. God’s peace, healing touch and strength for all families dealing with cancer or other terminal illnesses.

  48. Definitely will pray for your friend. The “C” word is so frightening. Been through that twice with my sweet mom, who is doing good now! May God continue to enfold your friend in His tender, loving care.
In answering your question about your children, you and Richard have two grown children — and have been blessed with six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Blessings, Linda

  49. I just said a prayer for you and your friend and their family. I have dealt with cancer in my family, my Mom is a survivor, but I lost my Dad a few years ago. I used to work Hospice and learned a long time ago that more important then some of the “things” you can do for a person, is spending time with the family/friends just talking. Making Quality of time count.

  50. we should always pray for others . MY sister is in a coma and has been for a a few months , now our time but GOD<S time ,, we don,t know why , and pray that,s all we can do , pray for her . her mane is JEAN . . thank you all barb

  51. Wanda: I love how you feel about TRUE FRIENDSHIP. I know that God gives us TRUE FRIENDS, but that they are far and few between. I heard a sermon once where we have friends, acquaintances, and true friends. If God gives you one TRUE friend, in your lifetime, you are blessed. I will be praying for your friend with cancer. My mother died in 1989 with cancer. It was hard, but she came to “know” Christ before she died, and I am blessed to know that I will see her again. Sometimes our lives are “too busy”, I am one of those people who just get “too” busy, ty for reminding me to “do” for others, and look for an opportunity to serve someone else. Barbara

  52. Wanda is a wonderful talented author. I enjoy reading her books .I just finished reading The Hope Jar couldn’t put the book down. wonderful , can’t wait for next book.
