The fact that they refrain from cars and phones, but have drivers and phone sheds to use…

The interesting tradition that I found this past summer while vacationing in Lancaster Co. Pa. was the undying love for one another.  While you always read how the men are out in the fields and barns and remain a "man's man" so to speak.  I found this 82 yr. old couple hanging laundry outside together.  Mr. Jonathan, said, "She has so much work to do with the farmstay business, she needs help."  It may sound silly, but I found it adorable, that he dotes over his wife so much.  Why can we not stay together and grow old like generations before us did?

That is so sweet. Thanks for sharing. I have also seen some of the Amish men we know help their wives with the dishes. It's also very precious to me to see the young Amish men (and also grandfathers) hold and care for the little ones.

I don't really know if it is a tradition as such, but I do like how the Amish woman keeps her  lovely long hair hidden away from most people, but her husband is the only one who gets to see her lovely hair down and out of the covering.

What a precious gift that is.

I think it's interesting how they don't like having their pictures taken, unless they're small. I also think it's interesting how the little girls have faceless dolls. One thing I wonder is why do they think that having a doll with a face is a sin? I know they feel that it's a graven image, but when I was little I was a avid Barbie doll collector. I never thought of Barbie as a graven image when I was a child.

Not all Amish believe this, and many allow their children to play with dolls that do have faces.
